History
Strmilov first appears in historical records in 1255. The name is believed to be derived from that of a local duke: Střemil. Thanks to Heřman from Hradec the small settlement of Strmilov became a town and gained its symbol – the five-leaf rose.
The manor passed to Zachariáš from Hradec in 1354. Family Podstatsky-Lichtenstein became its new tenants form 1796 – 1850.
In the middle ages there were many guilds in Strmilov: bakers, butchers, millers, weavers or tailors. There was a brewery, too, first mentioned in 1750.
The town was destroyed several times in a fire – the worst hit in 1853 – it burnt 136 houses, church, school and three men died.
The 20th century is linked to a rush development, but the population decreased rapidly.
Nowadays the town offers a bright rank of service: shops, school, library, Civic hall, Nursing Home, Church Centre, a lot of Sports events and other leisure time activities.
